Where is... Kathryn?

Sudarshan Shetty’s curatorial premise for the 2016 Kochi-Muziris Biennale “Forming in the Pupil of an Eye” was, according to the exhibition text “unassuming but enlightening” allowing a “multitude of possible responses and interpretations…with most works centered around a debate between the traditional and the contemporary, and those that exist dialogically, working in relation and as reactions to one another.” This allowed for diverse approaches and interpretations in this vast and at times, overwhelming exhibition of 97 artists from 35 countries that will last 108 days. Wishing I had that amount of time to pour over each and every work, particularly video or performance works that require a commitment of time, within the space of several packed days, I made some choices, links and connections between works.

Kathryn Myers

Kathryn Myers is a professor of Art at the University of Connecticut –Storrs. She is a Fulbright scholar and her video series “Regarding India” is an extensive catalogue of interviews with contemporary Indian artists.

Other "Where is" Bloggers

Abhishek Anid Dutta

Abhishek Anid Dutta is a filmmaker, photographer, occasional whiner and a perpetual dreamer. His films have a rare poignancy and high sense of aesthetics. His portraits capture the inner world of the sometimes simple and sometimes complex world of human beings. Meet the man who comes from the land where the Brahamputra flows and where the crazy wind called "bordoisila" makes people spin tales. Abhishek grew up on these tales and hopes one day he would be a better storyteller than his grandmother. Check out Abhishek's "Where is?" series

Christine Pemberton

Christine Pemberton has itchy feet, a wandering mind and is always on the "run". In her own words, "I am British, married to my Indian husband, Himmat Kalsia, which cunningly makes me a Person of Indian Origin. Can’t vote, however. But can pay taxes, surprise, surprise." She lives in Delhi and writes for a number of magazines. Check out Christine's "Where is?" series

Stacy or Chihwei Yu

Stacy is from Taiwan and is residing in India at the moment. "India makes me crazy and I make India crazy" she said. Born in the 90s she is from the strawberry generation (A term used in Taiwan as the kids born in that era can easily be squashed -profund!) But Stacy thinks she is neither a strawberry and nor is she soft. Her recent book on India is climbing the bestseller charts in Taiwan and can be translated as "Working in India and walking into another centre of the world". In short, Ms Yu has mushroom hair, plays/blows trumpet and is not a strawberry! Check out Stacy's "Where is?" series
