One photographs in black and white and the other looks for color in each frame. The camaraderie between Raj Lalwani and Kashish Parpiani suggests that opposites not only attract but thrive. In 2014, when these two photographers came to know that Mumbai's iconic Irani cafe, B Merwan was going to shut shop after 100 years of existence, they started documenting the project through a photo blog.
The blog became popular and people waited for updates that came in accompanied with deep words. Tales from Merwan's was covered extensively by the media and many hoped the cafe would survive. The curtains came down on the Merwan Cafe in April 2014.But, that is not the end of the story, It reopened again on 16th of May 2014.The grapevine suggests that someone was deeply moved by the pictures and stories of Merwan's cafe and invested in the cafe. Did Raj and Kashish's Tales from Merwan's save the cafe? We don't know but we would like to believe it did.
This short film is produced by Chiwei Yu.
